2006 is just around the corner
Good news locally:
Daily Kos: AZ-Sen: Democrat Pederson Surges Against Republican Kyl
and
MyDD :: Democrat Pederson Surges Against Republican Kyl in Arizona US Senate Race
Great summary cross-posted on both sites. Pederson resigned as chair of the state party a couple of months ago. If he's not running, why make that move?
2006 will be a fascinating election year in this state. Democrats should not underestimate the fervor of the radical right in this state, especially with an anti-LGBT marriage amendment on the ballot. Most people "in the know" in Arizona "know" that the whole point of this cynical ballot proposition is to loosen support of a very popular Democratic governor so she looses to whatever right wingnut the state Republican party nominates.
I would also submit that there is an alternative ulterior motive to this ballot initiative: shore up Senator Kyl's only base of support in the state by putting a surefire motivator on the ballot with him.
Two incumbents up for re-election. I'd rather be Janet than Jon right now though. It's her race to lose while our junior Senator is in for the fight of his life.
